Canterbury Ballet's Junior School is full of passionate and like-minded individuals. Our Junior Dancers are focused on continuing to strengthen their technique, exploring their individual style, and thrive on challenging themselves to try new things.

Our dedicated and qualified Junior School teachers have many years of teaching experience under their belt. The Junior School at Canterbury Ballet will ensure your young dancer is gaining the knowledge which will set them up for success in whichever dance goal they set their mind to.

Please see the classes below that Canterbury Ballet offers to its Junior School Students. The relevant age brackets and corresponding levels are as follows:

Level 1: 7-8 Years

Level 2: 9-10 Years

Level 3: 10-11 Years

Classes (ages 7-11 years)

Level 1-3 Classical Ballet

Monday 4.15-5.15pm (Level 1)

Monday 4.15-5.15pm (Level 2&3)

Wednesday 5.15-6.30 (Level 2&3)

ABT Syllabus classes ensure your young dancer learns proper technique and establishes the foundations of Classical Ballet before progressing in their dance journey. Optional exams are available at the end of each year.

Level 1-3 Leaps, Turns & Tricks

Monday 4.45-5.15pm (Level 1-3)

Wednesday 4.30-5.15pm (Level 2-4)

Our Leaps, Turns & Tricks Class merges modern dance technique, skills and acro. This class emphasises Modern Dance skills with added acrobatics. Led by experienced instructors, you will focus on core strength, flexibility, and and achieving new skills while refining Modern Dance technique.

Level 1-3 Modern Dance

Monday 5.45-6.30pm (Level 1-3)

The Level 1-3 Modern Dance classes focus on building a strong foundation of technique and artistry in the Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical styles of dance. Students will learn open choreography as well as focus on refining their Modern Dance skills and technique.

Stretch & Strength

Tuesday 3.30-4pm

Wednesday 6.30-7.15pm

Our stretch and strength classes prioritise your safety while helping you build strong, flexible muscles. Our expert teachers will lead you through exercises crafted for your age group, focusing on proper techniques to nurture flexibility, strengthen necessary muscle groups, and reduce the risk of injury.

Junior Competition Team

Wednesday 3.45-4.30pm

By invitation only, Junior School students have the opportunity to train for and compete in solo and team competitions. Canterbury Ballet's Junior Soloists and Teams, composed of exceptional young dancers, boast a track record of securing National Titles. Elite young dancers are able to train together in a fun and supportive environment while experiencing challenges, building new skills and achieving their goals.
